All submissions will be considered for the print edition or TSR Online.

If you would like to support the work we do at TSR, please purchase a subscription. If you are submitting work, a subscription entitles  you to one free submission per reading period. 

Single Issue Subscription: $18

1-Year Subscription (2 issues): $29

PAY RATES

We are proud to pay our contributors. For poetry, prose, and illustrations, the honorarium is between $75 and $300.

Alas, we are unable to pay current or former (past 3 years) employees/students of any CUNY or SUNY institution.

READING PERIODS

September 1 – October 15

February 7 – March 15

We encourage submissions from unpublished authors. We’re interested in voice-driven writing that takes risks with structure and content.

We urge all of those who submit work to read copies of TSR or visit TSR Online or thesouthamptonreview.com for a better understanding of our editorial range.

FICTION

• We accept short stories and novel excerpts.
• 5,000 words max.
• Flash Fiction is welcome!

POETRY

• 5 poems max per submission (print and TSR Online). 

NONFICTION

• We accept creative nonfiction, memoir, personal essay, traditional essay, and hybrid forms.
• 5,000 words max.

FINE ART | PHOTOGRAPHY | ILLUSTRATION | GRAPHIC STORY | COMIC

Artwork should conform to the following specifications:

• 10 images max.
• Raster-based images (photos/scans) must be 300dpi at 7” wide at least (larger is okay).
• All files should be in CMYK color mode.
